Responsibilities:
- This role balances hands-on investment leadership with governance, client engagement, and oversight of the firm’s India-based research team. Time allocation is structured as follows:
- 40% | Bespoke Investment Management
- 20% | Investment Governance & Frameworks
- 20% | Executive Client & COI Presentation
- 20% | Executive Oversight of the India Node
- UHNW portfolio design: Construct highly customized, tax-optimized portfolios tailored to unique family balance sheets, liquidity needs, and multi-generational goals.
- Alternative asset sourcing: Source, vet, and perform strict due diligence on private equity, private credit, venture capital, and direct real estate investments.
- Tax architecture: Implement advanced tax-mitigation strategies, including direct indexing, asset location, and tax-loss harvesting.
- Concentrated position hedging: Formulate monetization or hedging strategies (e.g., options collars, exchange funds) for business owner and corporate executive clients.
- Philosophy & mandates: Establish and refine the firm’s core strategic and tactical asset allocation frameworks within Orion.
- Final sign-off: Act as the ultimate decision-maker on stock selection, manager selection, private market allocations, client alternatives sleeves, and sub-advisor replacements.
- Investment committee chair: Lead a monthly or quarterly internal investment committee review with the Founder to formalize macro views.
- High-stakes client meetings: Join the Founder via video conference for annual reviews and critical onboarding pitches for top-tier clients ($15MM+).
- COI alignment: Coordinate with clients’ external estate attorneys and CPAs to ensure the investment architecture supports complex multi-generational trusts.
- Thought leadership: Record brief quarterly video updates or finalize the macroeconomic market commentary (drafted by the India CFA) for client distribution.
- Strategic direction: Set the daily/weekly research agenda and modeling parameters for the India CFA.
- Audit & compliance: Perform final quality assurance reviews on all bespoke client pitch decks, tax-transition models, and due diligence memos generated overnight, and ensure US client PII is protected via Addepar.
Qualifications:
- Credentials: US-based CFA charterholder.
- Experience: 15+ years of private wealth and/or institutional investment experience.
- Client communication: Exceptional communicator capable of articulating complex market mechanics to $20MM+ clients.
- Investment expertise: Demonstrated depth in bespoke portfolio construction, alternatives due diligence, advanced tax-mitigation strategies, and concentrated position solutions.
- Global perspective: Familiarity with multiple jurisdictions, including the challenges associated with overseas family office functions and cross-border tax issues.
- Leadership: Ability to chair an investment committee, direct an offshore research resource, and serve as the final decision-maker on investment matters.
Compensation & Logistics:
